Have you guys seen that meme that says “Have you ever just wanted God to come down on the side of your bed and tell you exactly what to do”? Well, that’s exactly where I am right now in life and am sure some of you are as well. Whether it is a job/career change, relationship/dating advice or how to move forward an entrepreneurial endeavor, we all have had times where we just need HIM to give us “the word” or a sign. Even if it just reconfirmation that we are doing the right thing, it will help. If you’re like me, you have plans and dreams that you want to fulfill in life, but it is just confusing at certain turns.
There are so many distractions, too many choices and endless interruptions. It’s not even that everything is all bad. I’m speaking in reference to when things are somewhat okay and you see yourself getting content, but you KNOW God has more for you, so you want to know what is next and where he wants you to put your time and attention.
Wouldn’t it be so nice to wake up every morning and be assured you’re on the right path towards your goals? To know with certainty that you’re headed in the right direction? To feel confident with each step, without constantly questioning yourself? So many times I’ve second and third guessed a decision I was confident about. I want so desperately to follow God’s will that I’ll pray, but then feel uncertain, not wanting to make a wrong move. I think, maybe this isn’t what I’m supposed to be doing, maybe this person isn’t really for me or maybe this isn’t part of God’s plan for my life.
As I’ve wrestled with indecision and insecurity, I’ve sought for help. In the bible, it addresses our longing for guidance and shows us what to do when we need clear direction. Psalm 25:4-5 says:
“Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you”.
These verses reveal David’s humble and teachable heart. He wanted to be guided by God and led by His truth. David knew God was his Savior and placed all his hope in the One who created the right path for him.
We find the answers to David’s request for guidance only a few short passages away. Promises we can claim for our own lives. Psalm 25:8-10:
“The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands”.
We have to constantly remind ourselves, to trust and believe in God’s promises to us. With trusting His promises we have to also trust the process and His timing. He may not answer us at the exact moment we want or in the way we think it should happen, but that doesn’t mean He isn’t in control.
Finally and most importantly, we have to be more tuned in when He is talking. Even when we do pray and talk to God, we don’t always realize that God is actually speaking back. TAKE TIME TO HEAR & SEE THE SIGNS! Our answer may already be right in front of us.
Prayer for guidance:
Heavenly Father, thank you for your guidance. Forgive me for getting ahead of your plans, and help me know when to stop and listen for your direction. Your ways are perfect, Lord. Thank You for offering gentle grace. Thank you for the people you have divinely placed in my life who speak truth, love and words of wisdom. Give me a heart of discernment to know when you are using someone to speak instruction into my heart and my circumstances, and give me the strength and courage to follow through with that advice, even when it’s hard. Fill me with peace in knowing that even if I take a wrong turn, your purpose will prevail. In Jesus name, Amen.
