Hey Loves! So I get a lot of questions from you guys asking me what I did to start my entrepreneurial journey. Whether you’re into influencing, blogging or even selling products– starting a new business has its challenges. Starting your own business is a learn-as-you-go process. Meaning, the more smarter and accountable decisions you make early in the beginning, the better chance you have for setting you and your brand up for success.
If you’re in the beginning stages of trying to decide how to go about starting your own business, one thing I want you to keep in mind is there is no cookie-cutter formula for starting a new business. Along my journey of entrepreneurship (shoutout to my second year as a full-time influencer and blogger), I am constantly learning how to navigate through the ups and downs of being a business owner.
I know that feeling of first starting out and not having many valuable resources and advice, so I deemed it important to make sure I share with you all a few tips I used (and am still using) when I was first starting out. Keep reading as I share with you five tips for starting a new business!
Tip #1: Pray
If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know I am big on faith! My faith is so important to me, and is the driving force behind everything I do. I find that praying is my biggest solution to anything in life. When I’m happy, I pray. When I’m grateful, I pray. When I’m angry and confused, I pray. When I’m anxious, I pray. Prayer is something that I deem important and is an absolute must for me as a full-time entrepreneur. Without prayer, I would not be where I am today in my business, so make sure you’re taking the time out to pray to God and let him know that without him– nothing would be possible.
Tip #2: Self-evaluation
After deciding that you officially want to start your own business, you should then begin the self-evaluation process. This is where you go in and ask yourself questions like, “Why do I want to start a business?” Starting a new business is no joke! Asking yourself this question will serve as a guide to finding out what kind of business you want to start and if you have what it takes to start.
During this self-evaluation stage, you want to make sure you’re also asking yourself the following questions:
What skills do I have that will be beneficial to my business?
Where does my passion lie?
What is my area of expertise?
What does my budget consist of?
Am I truly ready to be an entrepreneur?
These are all questions worth asking yourself to make sure you are truly ready to take that next step as you begin to build a solid foundation for your new business venture.
Tip #3: Be passionate
When it comes to starting a new business, passion is not something that can be taught. If you aren’t passionate about starting the new business, chances are– that business just isn’t for you. Sure, you may not love every aspect of what it takes to run your own business, but having some kind of fire in your body about starting the business is what fuels your passion. I personally knew that I loved taking pictures and wearing cute outfits, so for me, it felt right and made sense to pursue influencing and blogging full-time because I was passionate about the industry– plus who doesn’t love free clothes?!
Tip #4: Build a support system
Family is everything to me. Without my family’s support, I feel incomplete. Making sure you have some kind of support system set into place while starting your new business is essential. Whether it’s a family member or a friend, someone that will genuinely listen to you and give you advice during this period is extremely important and valuable. Support can also be in the form of a mentor or a therapist too. Experienced guidance will allow you to view things from different perspectives, which is always needed in entrepreneurship.
Tip #5: Earn while you build
This one especially was something I personally practiced before becoming a full-time content creator. Before quitting my corporate job, I made sure I had enough money saved up before deciding that I wanted to pursue influencing and blogging full-time. Starting a new business is a process, so you want to make sure you are capable of fully supporting yourself with that income before quitting your day job. Once you’re at a point where you feel comfortable enough with a healthy flow of income coming in, gradually transition from an employee to a full-time entrepreneur.
