People frequently ask me how I do so much and have gotten where I am in life. Truthfully, growing up I was one of the most afraid, overthinking and insecure people you would ever meet. Below are some key things that helped me change everything around and ultimately take control of my life!
Do what scares you the most!
It is easy to allow fear to suffocate your ambitions and hinder your future goals. Remember that rejection does not define you – it’s how you handle obstacles that expresses and shows your character. So, go for it! The worst thing that can happen is you fail. These so-called “failures” are merely learning experiences that were meant to redirect or guide you to your maximum greatness. No successful person has gotten where they are merely by trying it once and succeeding. Even the most accomplished people have encountered the largest and most detrimental failures. What sets them apart is their determination to try another route or do it again even better.
Often times I meet people who have a ton of ideas regarding what they want to do but have yet to take the steps to actually take action. The more you simply talk about it, the more precious time you are wasting. I cannot stress how important it is to just go for it! Trust your instincts, trust your gifts and talents and trust the God in you! Don’t be afraid to create a blog, record a song, go after your dreams and step out of your comfort zone!
For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13)
Stop overthinking everything and judging yourself!
The more you dwell on your insecurities, the more control they will have over your growth. It can be so simple, just decide what you want, figure out the necessary steps and go after it. You are your biggest critic and the only thing holding you back. Being content is not living! You will wake up one day and realize others are doing the things you always dreamed of, wished for and contemplated doing. In the end, you will just be mad. Kill those insecurities and allow yourself to shine.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
(2 Timothy 1:7)
Lastly, don’t apologize for who you are and OWN IT!
Instead of caring about other people’s opinions, focus on what YOU think about yourself. We all have a plethora of million dollar/genius ideas that we suppress out of concern for what other people think (even if we will have support). Keep wise counsel in your life and friends that will trust any of the positive, crazy dreams you have! If they cannot think outside the box and dream right along with you, they are not fit for you in this season of your life! Stay away from the naysayers and negative people, we don’t have time for them anyways. Taking control of your life starts with you! We got this!
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)
Let 2018 be the year that you shock yourself and drop the fears and insecurities that you have harbored your entire life! Let this be the year that you live the life that you have always imagined! Take those steps day by day and knock those barriers down! You will not regret it! Just know that God will be with you along the way! All he is waiting for is your yes, and faith, and for you to trust what he has called for you to do!
